As we mentioned earlier, Hockey Nations proudly sponsors OneHockey, the World’s largest international youth hockey tournament for elite players. Established in 2004 with just 6 teams, One Hockey has in seven years grown to be not only North America’s most competitive hockey tournament but also the World’s largest international youth tournament with over 200 teams.
The first Spring event took place in 6-8 May 2011 in Spruce Grove & Edmonton in Alberta, Canada and here is a report from the OneHockey team:
17 May 2011
Over 900 players representing every single province in Canada, 25 U.S. states as well as Finland and the Czech Republic travelled to Spruce Grove and Edmonton, Alberta last week and experienced a tournament they will never forget.
“My players, parents and myself have never seen a tournament so well organized, competitive and so much fun to play at. My players haven’t taken their jerseys and champion caps off since May 8 and are showing their gold medals all over the school,” said Southern Alberta 2003 head coach Alan Letendre. “I simply can’t believe this and am so glad I have been invited to coach Team Canada 2003 and 2002 and represent our country in Philadelphia July 6 to 10.”
From the unique opening ceremony, to the teams’ high skill level and the numerous awards, OneHockey delivered on all levels.
“This was our 8th year putting on events of this type and I have to say that this one will be remembered for a long time,” said OneHockey President Sebastien Fortier. “We are just about to get really big in Canada.”
OneHockey expects the Alberta tournament to grow from 54 teams to over 100 in 2012, and anticipates full teams from Europe to attend. The uniqueness of this tournament makes the whole experience one to remember.
Philadelphia is next (June 30 – July 3 and July 7-10) and many of the players from Alberta will be invited to participate. Divisions offered in Philadelphia are 1993 to 2003. Players are invited to apply as individual or with their full team at http://www.onehockey.com
Hockey Nations team congratulates all the winners of the Alberta tournament and will be looking forward to the next tournament!
